Eagle Scout Board Completed by Cumberland Occoneechee District
American Legion Post 230 has had a great relationship with Boy Scout Troop 82 over the past couple of years. The Post has focused much of its attention on being a support mechanism for the troop to ensure that scouts inside of the troop were successful. On May 31st, we had an opportunity to join the troop during an Eagle Scout Board as they had four Eagle Scout candidates promoted to Eagle Scout.

Past Commander and current Finance Officer, Mark Erskine along with Mothers of Eagle Scout Candidates, and Occoneechee District Council members all came together to award four young men in the community with their Eagle Scout. One of the Eagle Scout Candidates, Lawrence Gilbert Ferguson Jr, conducted his Eagle Scout project at Post 230. He said he wanted to help American Legion Post 230 with its programs since Post 230 did so much to support Boy Scout Troop 82. His Eagle Scout Project was a permanent burn pit for the annual flag retirement ceremony. He also build benches so members can enjoy the fire pit during other functions at Post 230. In total, he earned 12 Scouting Badges at Post 230.
We are proud of all four of the young men who were awarded their Eagle Scout badges. We are also honored we were part of their journey!
